AGARTALA, Jan 3 (TIWN): Minister Ratan Lal Nath has declared a stipend of Rs. 2 Lakhs for girl students who will crack Medical entrance exams, but, they must be residents of Jawaharlal Nehru Balika Niwash, in Natun Nagar. Mohanpur SDM Subhash Datta was accompanied by the Minister during the visit.
It’s not yet clear if he would pay the students with his MLA fund or from his own pocket because although he said, "I decided to give them the amount" but at the same time, he mentioned the Mohanpur SDM who actually offered the plan.
The announcement came from the Minister after he visited the girls’ hostel on Friday morning, distributed mosquito nets and blankets.
“They asked me to purchase a harmonium for them as they participate in various competitions,” he said.
The Minister further said, “The hostel also receives little government funds. Over 50 girl students are residing here, and studying. They are facilitated with teachers and cooks.”
Nath also distributed Rs. 5,000 to the hostel.
