Three thieves caught red-handed at Grameen Bank

Agartala, February 7 (TIWN): In a dramatic episode, three thieves were caught red-handed by the public at Grameen Bank branch at Math Chowmohani, outskirt of capital city- Agartala here this afternoon.

The three thieves were identified as Sanjoy Singh (32), Munna Guala (19) and Shayam Das (32), all of them are the residents of Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, said police.

According to Ranjit Kumar Roy, resident of college road adjacent to Modern Club, after withdrawing a total of Rs 75000 from the post-office, he went to Gramen Bank branch at Math Chowmohani.

“While I was filling up a form to deposit Rs 75000 at the Grameen Bank, three persons came from the backside and said your money is laid down on the floor. At the same time when I was trying to search the bag with money, the three persons dramatically tried to flee away after taking my bag with Rs. 75000 within a moment”, said Roy.

But the thieves failed to escape from the bank as because of the efforts of public after the owner of the bag started shouting seeking help.

However, after receiving the information on the incident, police of East Agartala police station rushed to the spot and detained three thieves after recovering the bag of money. Among them, Shayam Das was taken to GBP hospital as his condition is stated to be critical after facing the mob attack, said police.

Later, the owner of the bag logged an FIR in this regard at East Agartala police station. In the written complaint, he mentioned that after the recovery of the bag, out of Rs. 75000 he found, Rs. 10000 was missing. The thieves would be produced before the court on tomorrow, said police.
