AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): The Human Rights Commission of Tripura slapped a Rs. 25,000 fine on senior police officer Prasun Kanti for assaulting citizens.
The police officer who was posted as Deputy Superintendent beat up a doctor.
Victim Dr. Kaushik Debnath on January 25 was assaulted by the officer, that came into the media limelight, erupting massive public reaction.
Prasun Kanti Tripura's daughter snatched Kaushik Debnath’s phone alleging he was recording her and when he tried to retrieve his phone, he was assaulted further.
Prasun Kanti Tripura then tried to fabricate a story to save his daughter.
The cop was accused of using abusive language, and physically assaulting the victim, by totally misusing the uniform.
The Human Rights Commission also asked the DGP and the Chief Secretary to move a departmental proceeding against Prasun Kanti.
After hearing the whole matter, the Human Rights Commission came to the conclusion by punishing Prasun Kanti with Rs. 25,000 along with departmental action that has been ordered against him.
