AGARTALA, Nov 17 (TIWN): Tripura NET/ P.hd qualified guest lecturers on Sunday appealed to the Tripura Government to regularize them for the sake of quality education in Tripura Degree colleges. Addressing a press meet, a job aspirant said, “Right now, Tripura has 25 degree colleges and 5 professional colleges. As per UGC guidelines, around 2100 professors should be working in the colleges, but data shows only 388 permanent professors are working there.”
“Tripura Government is highly dependent upon guest lecturers but the college education is now draining with unqualified guest lecturers. 100 qualified guest lecturers are teaching across the colleges but there is no sign of regularizing them,” he said.
“In 2001 when Tripura had 12 degree colleges, permanent professors were 661 but now, the colleges have been doubled but there are only 91 regular professors,” he added.
“A total of 273 vacant posts exist but recruitment is at a slow pace. When UGC guidelines say, the guest lecturer should get Rs. 1,500 per class, we only get Rs. 500. Our demand from the government that it should regularize the qualified guest lecturers to uphold the quality of education, as last year around 20,000 students failed in colleges and it’s happening because of downing education quality in colleges,” he added.
Along with filling up of vacant posts, the job aspirants demanded increasing of posts.
