AGARTALA, Sep 17 (TIWN): Congress leaders visited Ranir Bazar, Durga Nagar area where around 15 families were affected after miscreants set fire to minority Muslim families after an alleged vandalism of Kali temple by ‘unknown’ people. At least 12 houses were completely burnt and cattle died in the massive fire. No ruling BJP leader visited the area since the incident happened on August 25 night. Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, and Congress party president Asish Saha visited the area and met the victims who are now surviving without houses. In the massive fire, the people lost every belonging and so far, the government failed to declare any compensation for them. No proper press briefing was aired and no visit by the top officials came before the media.

Initially, police arrested a few suspected miscreants but later, local MLA cum Minister Sushanta Chowdhury assured on camera that each and everyone arrested in this incident would be released. No further information was given after that.

Congress state president Asish Saha said this incident targeted the minority community intentionally to spread tension and communal sentiments across the state.

Congress demanded the arrest of all culprits and the rehabilitation of the surviving families, as they are deeply financially affected by this incident.
