SABROOM, Sep 9 (TIWN): Leader of the state Opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury has been visiting various areas in Sabroom which was affected due to flood calamities. On Monday, Chowdhury visited Harina market where he inspected the half-done bridge over Manu River. Chowdhury said, the bridge work had started during Left Govt’s time but as the BJP Govt took over, the bridge could not be completed by the previous government. Till now, one iron bridge was the only route for the local people which has been damaged in flood. As a result, locals are risking their lives to cross the river water.
Talking to the media, Jitendra Chowdhury said, “The work started long back. Due to site selection, the construction was delayed during Left time and when construction started, BJP came to power. But till now the existing government failed to complete the project, crossing the deadlines.”
“In Belonia, during a review meeting, the issue came out. The local people are suffering heavily. Farmers are unable to transport their crops, students are unable to go to school safely. The existing footbridge which was also constructed by the Left government is now damaged by flood. So I urge the government to fix the bridge at the earliest to relieve the people from this transportation problem,” said Chowdhury.
