AGARTALA, Aug 8 (TIWN): Hope arose among a small section of terminated 10323 teachers, as the Supreme Court directed the Tripura High Court to review the termination orders of 700 teachers. The terminated teachers have been consistently appealing to the High Court to review their terminations but each time, their petition was dismissed. Now, with the fresh order received from the Supreme Court, the 700 terminated teachers are hoping for a positive outcome as the High Court would review the termination orders.
“The Supreme Court's bench, led by Justice Bela M. Trivedi, issued the order on August 2, 2024, following a petition from these teachers contesting the legality and constitutionality of their terminations, which were enforced by the state government in 2017 and 2020”, reported Times of India.
The petition filed by 700 terminated teachers was represented by advocates Tarini K. Nayak, Amrit Lal Saha, and Aaditya Mishra.
The petition argued that the termination was “unlawful” because the High Court’s judgment of teachers’ termination in 2014 did not mention these teachers because they were recruited under a different recruitment rule.
The petitioners also alleged that no individual termination letter was served to them and the employment codes and salaries are still active which might have led to embezzlement of the state funds.
