NEW DELHI, Aug 6 (TIWN): Aftermath forceful resignation of Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh Prime Minister's post, the Govt of India has convened an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to brief leaders of all political parties on the situation in the violence-struck nation and the steps taken by the Indian government. Before the meeting Jay Shankar had met Rahul Gandhi, who is the leader of Opposition Parties.
Although specific details of their conversation remain undisclosed, sources indicate that the meeting aimed to address the far-reaching consequences of the crisis in Bangladesh. According to a source, "The meeting underscored a collaborative effort to stay informed and respond effectively to the rapidly evolving situation in the neighboring country."
This meeting comes in the wake of dramatic developments in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has tendered her resignation and fled the country. Following violent protests in Dhaka, Hasina arrived at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, amid widespread destruction and significant loss of life. The death toll in the anti-government protests has surpassed 300 in just three weeks, with over 100 people killed and more than 1,000 injured in recent days.
Initially sparked by student protests against civil service job quotas, the unrest has evolved into a broader anti-government uprising demanding Hasina's resignation. Meanwhile, Hasina arrived in India on a Bangladesh Air Force military transport plane as thousands of protesters stormed and vandalized the Prime Minister's official residence in Dhaka. Reports suggest she will soon depart for London. She was welcomed to India yesterday.
