AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): On the eve of the tri-tier panchayat elections in the state, the people of six villages blocked the national highway demanding the reform of the Assam-Agartala national highway. The blockade took place in Kherengjuri area of ??Dharmanagar sub-division of North Tripura district, where the Assam-Agartala National Highway is in poor condition.
The agitators said that the drivers of small and big vehicles face everyday problems due to the potholes on the national highway and the local people are also suffering who walk through the way. Allegedly, there has been no renovation of the national highway for the past one and a half to two years.
A few days ago, a pregnant woman on her way to Shanichhara Hospital died before reaching the hospital and locals said, it happened because of bad road conditions.
Finally, the people of Kherengjuri, Balichra, Chandpur, Lakshi Nagar, North Phulbari, Dakshin Phulbari, Churaibari areas blocked the national highway in Kherengjuri area from 11 am on Saturday.
