AGARTALA, February 3 (TIWN): Tripura is slated to have a ten-day long budget session in the legislative assembly from February 6. A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held on Tuesday has finalized the business of the House.
Tripura Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha would be placing the full-fledged budget for 2015-2016 on February 10, Speaker of the state legislative assembly – Ramendra Chandra Debnath today presided over the BAC meeting.
The BAC meeting today resolved that two bills – the Tripura Lokayukta amendment Bill and Tripura State University bill would be placed in the House for approval on February 10. Earlier the state government appointed Pradip Kumar Sarkar, former judge of the Gujarat High Court, as Tripura's Lokayukta during the year 2011 following ascent of the president to the Tripura Lokayukta Act passed by the assembly in 2008. Government officials were not included in the act earlier.
Whereas, the then leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath has criticized the amended bill for not bringing the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council under the purview of the bill.
However, besides, Education Minister tapan Chakroborty earlier talking to the reporters at the civil secretariat said that Tripura Government would set up a separate university for the state besides the existing central university. And if the state university bill is passed in the state assembly then the university would be set up. He also said that if everything goes on right track than the academic session might start by the month of July.
