Agartala, February 2 (TIWN): The birth centenary of former Chief Minister of Tripura Dasarath Deb is being observed all across the state with due honour. At the initiative of Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) the day is being observed by hoisting the party flag, paying floral tributes and discussion to memorise the iconic left leader of the state Tripura. In each of the subdivisions, hall meeting would held, informed CPI(M) state Secretary Bijan Dhar.
He was a leader of the Ganamukti Parishad and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1952, 1957, 1962 and 1971 from Tripura East constituency. He was also the vice-president of All India Kisan Sabha and the first and yet only tribal Chief Minister of Tripura.
Relating to the same, a programme would held at Rabindra Satabarsiki Bhawan , this afternoon, at 4 PM. Besides, to mark the birth centenary of iconic left leader and former Chief Minister of Dasharath Deb, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will unveil a statue of Dasharath Deb on next February 2, 2014 at 12 noon in Dasharath Deb Memorial college premise of Khowai. Minister of Animal Resource Development and Tribal welfare Aghore Debbarma, ADC Chief Executive Member Ranjit Debbarma and Principal in charge of DDMC will also remain present in the programme. MLA Samir Deb Sarkar will preside over the programme where Minister Khagendra Jamatia will also remain present in the mentioned programme.
Dasarath Deb was inducted into the Central Committee of the undivided CPI in 1951, one year after he joined the party. Immediately he made his presence felt in the party at the national level. When the CPI split in 1964, he joined the CPI(M) and was its Central Committee member until the party's 16th congress in Calcutta, held in October 1998.
Under the leadership of Dasarath Deb, the Upajati Ganamukti Parishad was formed in 1964 to lead the tribal people to the path of socialism and counter the activities of tribal extremists politically. He was its president until he died on October 14, at the age of 82. The Upajati Ganamukti Parishad, a mass organisation of the CPI (M), was a political necessity in the context of the secessionist activities indulged in by some tribal extremist organisations.
Student Federation of India (SFI) has also celebrated the day thorough various programmes.
