ONGC gas supply to NEEPCO successful : V.P. Mahawar

AGARTALA, Feb 2 (TIWN): ONGC charged gas into the 10 km pipeline from Khedabari - Sonamura GCS, to its Gas Metering Terminal at NEEPCO - Monarchak on Sunday.

Deepak Bakshi, ED- Chief Onshore Engineering Services, ONGC from New Delhi and V P Mahawar, ED – Asset Manager, Tripura Asset opened the valves for charging gas into pipeline.

VP Mahawar and Deepak Bakshi camped at Monarchak along with the team till 2.30 am and ensured that the gas reached Monarchak terminal.

ONGC has carried out extensive pigging and thorough cleaning operations to ensure that clean gas without impurities or any foreign particles is supplied to NEEPCO, Monarchak. 

Speaking to TIWN Asset Manager, V P Mahawar said that ONGC is completely ready to supply gas to NEEPCO Monarchak as per its requirements for commissioning the unit.  He also further informed that Sonamura GCS is designed to the capacity of 0.8 MMSCMD, whereas the NEEPCO’s requirement is 0.5 MMSCMD only. Keeping in view the future developments and requirements of gas customers, ONGC has laid 10” pipeline up to Monarchak, having designed capacity to supply gas up to 1.5 MMSCMD

He said the pipeline was hydro-tested for confirming integrity and nitrogen was purged successively as part of standard operational and safety procedure. Further the pipeline was charged with gas up to Monarchak terminal. This pipeline section includes 600 m pipeline laid below Gomati River using the technology of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). 
 
Earlier, in the 1st phase, 16” x 21 km pipeline from Gas Metering Station - Palatana to Khedabari - Sonamura GCS was charged on 14th January, 2015, said the ONGC official.
 
Mr. Mahawar further told that the local contractors deserve all appreciations for their spirited day in/day out efforts and professional zeal, which resulted in the successful completion of the pipe line works required for supply gas to NEEPCO.  The step taken by ONGC has provided an opportunity to local people for enhancing skills, knowledge and entrepreneurship, which will certainly help in a long way for the development of Tripura.
 
Mr. Mahawar thanked the local administration and the people of Gomati and Khedabari areas for their continuous support to ONGC in completion of the project works. He also specially thanked the local media for the constructive role being played in the development of Tripura and in particular about NEEPCO gas supply.
 
ONGC has given letter to NEEPCO – Monarchak about its readiness for supply and asked to provide their gas requirement schedule. Accordingly gas will be supplied by ONGC.
