AGARTALA, April 13 (TIWN): The Lok Sabha 2019 Election and 2024 Lok Sabha Election law and order situation in Tripura are distinctively different. Whereas in 2019 house to house attacks by miscreants, and bike gang-led attacks on opposition were everyday incidents, in 2024 the pre-poll violence has drastically decreased even if not fully diminished. To elevate the confidence level, Tripura Police and administration have started Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP). Out of the systematic education police’s bike rally is one activity that drew the attention of social media.

When pre-poll attacks so far are tightly under control (at least in comparison with 2019 due to political criminalistic incidents and candidate-led threats even to police officers), concerns remain among the opposition regarding the polling day situation.

It’s not opposition parties' allegation but even election department officials’ remarks could not avoid the chances of voters’ prevention on the upcoming poll days.

On April 11, CEO Punit Agarwal told people via media to collect data if they feel that there might be voters’ prevention and then the department will take action.

Various District heads in Tripura have taken initiative to apply the SVEEP technique to generate voters’ confidence. The election department also has taken multiple actions against model code of conduct violators in Tripura polls, that includes warning given to East Tripura BJP candidate Kriti Singh for objectionable statement and suspension of government employees for participating in rallies.

Tripura police have been spreading awareness about voters’ rights through social media posts.

ECI’s  SVEEP website states, “SVEEP is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. It is a multi-intervention programme that reaches out through different modes and media to educate citizens, electors, and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and promote their informed participation. SVEEP is designed according to the socio-economic, cultural, and demographic profile of the state as well as history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections. The Commission produces several voter awareness materials and disseminates the same through various mediums/platforms of communication i.e Print Media, Electronic Media, Social Media etc.”

In Tripura various measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful election. House-to-house vote collections for eighty-five plus aged people and postal ballots have been conducted.

Tripura two Lok Sabha constituencies West Tripura and East Tripura have tightened with security setup. West Tripura election will be held on April 19 whereas the East Tripura election will be held on April 26. By-poll for 7-Ramnagar also will take place on April 19, the same day when West Tripura Lok Sabha poll will happen.
