State pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi on 67th death anniversary

AGARTALA, January 30 (TIWN): Alongwith the whole nation today the state Tripura paid homage to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 67th death anniversary. The Pradesg Congress leaders on Friday along with Minister Ratan Bhowmik and other officials of the state have paid a floral tribute to Gandhi on the Gandhi bedi at Agartala Gandhighat.

All religion prayer comprising of Gita, Khuran, and Bible have been organized at the Gandhighat with Minister Ratan Bhowmik along with the other officials of the state comprising of SDM Manik Lal Das paid a floral tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhighat on his 67th death anniversary.

Earlier the congress leaders today at around engaged themselves hoisting flags at Agartala Congress Bhawan with the opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman hoisted the National Flag, Tripura Pradesh Congress President Birajit Sinha hoisted the Party Flag and Youth Congress President Sushanta Chowdhury hoisted the Youth Congress Flag.
The day is also observed as Martyrs` Day. On this day in 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated at a prayer meeting.
However the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is also all set to observe 125th birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India Pdt. Jawaharlal Nehru with a theme “National Integration and Communal Harmony”. The congress will start the celebration of the birth anniversary from February 6 and will continue till February 15. Several cultural programmes will also be organized across the state as part of the celebration of the Nehru birth anniversary
