AGARTALA, January 29 (TIWN): NEEPCO is all set to start commissioning test run of its solar power plant at Monarchak, Sonamura Sub-Division of Tripura. Monarchak is ready for generating 2.5 MW of power on its partial commissioning by the first week of February; Electrical inspection team from NEEPCO Shillong is expected to arrive soon. Once Electrical inspection team gives clearance, Solar Plant will start test run; said NEEPCO Project Head SR Biswas to TIWN today. The proposed solar plant will come up in the premises of 101 MW Tripura gas-based power project which is under construction.Talking to TIWN today NEEPCO Project Head S.R.Biswas mentioned that for developing 5 MW solar power plant at Monarchak the plant is now all set to start its power generation of 2.5 MW in the premises of its partial commissioning. “We are expecting to commission 2.5 MW of power from the solar power plant by the first week of February”, said Biswas. Adding to that he said that the entire project for the development of the solar power plant the total costs rests at around Rs. 40 Crores. For maintenance and development of 5 MW power plant, the company had invited bids.

The scope of work involves designing, manufacturing, supplying, packing, forwarding and transportation of the power plant to the site along with its operation and maintenance for a period of 5 yrs.

The bidder will also be responsible for associated civil, architectural and structural works.

Later on sideline of  another issue of 101 MW ,  Biswas told to TIWN that it will take some more time to start producing power from Monarchak’s steam turbine,, while the ONGC has been working hard enough to supply gas to monarchak for the power production. Once the ONGC starts charging gas to Monarchak power plant the plant will start commissioning power.

According to the official sources, to tap the immense potential of non-conventional sources of energy of Northeast, NEECO has initiated another 5 MW solar power project at Lanka of Assam and 2 MW capacity of windmill in Arunachal Pradesh besides, producing conventional energy in the region.

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar powersystems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photovoltaic effect. Commercial concentrated solar power plants were first developed in the 1980s.

However it is also mentionable here that the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) is embarking on a plan to generate at least 1500MW power from non-conventional sources of energy, especially by tapping solar power and wind, in the next five years.
