AGARTALA, Jan 30 (TIWN): CPI-M units staged a protest in Agartala against the Adhaar Based Payment System (ABS) that has been launched for MNREGA job card holders. CPI-M agitators under ‘All India Krishak Sramik’ said, that due to the ABS, over lakhs of people would lose job cards in state Tripura. Talking to media, a CPI-M leader said, “We are protesting against the ABS process that has been introduced for MGNREGA job car holders to clear their wages. The linking of Adhaar and Bank has caused job card losses for over 7.5 crores of India across the nation. Out of 25.35 crores job card holders, 7.5 crores lost their cards and in Tripura also the effect has been seen.”
“In our state total job card holders are 6.25 lakhs and with this process around 1 lakh job card holders’ names will be slashed. For example – in Sepahijala district, around 6,800 job card holders are removed,” he said.
“So we demand the withdrawal of ABS process in MNREGA payment. Protesting against it, in 23 subdivisions of 8 districts, we are staging protests,” he said.
