Agartala, January 27 (TIWN): As part of social activities, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 10 Bn Monday distributed several food items including Rice, Dal, vegetables among the old aged persons (members) of Abalamban old age home located at Barjala, outskirt of capital city- Agartala.
According to Dilip Pal, caretaker of Abalamban, altogether 70 old aged ladies, residing in the home, are suffering from dearth of basic amenities like food, warmth and care for over last five years. “After losing everything from the nearest persons, at the time when we need peace and love, a section of Home authority handle us with rough behavior”, said the member.
Asked about the issue, Abalamban authority alleged that a CDPO assigned for maintaining and sending reports on monthly expenditure is not doing his duty accordingly for over last five years. As a result, the existing members of Apan Ghar are facing shortage of food and other amenities due to insufficient funds, he added.
“A total of around Rs 5500 (100 members x 2 times meal) is needed for a single day expenditure. As because of the assigned CDPO’s irregularity in maintaining reports, the home is suffering from insufficient funds for last five years”, said a source from Abalamban.
Recently a team from Abalamban, visited Social Welfare and Social Education Minister- Bijita Nath and informed about the issue in details. After studying the allegations, the Minister assured them of investigating the matter and to take proper initiative, said the source.
“If the state government fails to take immediate action to arrange sufficient foods for the aged members of Home, they will die out of starvation”, added the source.
In such situation, a few of government and non-government organizations are distributing food items and other things among the members of Abalamban. As a part, the 10 Bn TSR led by Commandant Dilip Roy, Lawyer Subrata Sarkar yesterday distributed several food items including Rice, Dal, and vegetables among the old aged persons for three months.
