Distribution of free bi-cycles increases retention rate of girl students: School Education Dept. to distribute more 20000 bi-cycles in current FY

Agartala, January 23 (TIWN): With the proper planning effort and its implementation towards the universalization of education, the state government has been making all-out efforts for all round development and to felicitate the learning system since its attainment of Statehood in 1972.

According to a highly placed source of School Education Department, altogether 4818 government schools including 84 girls’ schools have already been set up in Tripura putting down the drop-out rate for primary stage (I-IV) at 2.42 percent and for elementary stage at 2.52 percent till December 2014.

“With an endeavour to overall development of intellect, sound health and mind of children, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCA) method was introduced from the academic year 2015 for implementation at the elementary stage of education. To cope up with the new method of learning and evaluation, the teachers were also trained accordingly”, said the communiqué.

Referring the school inspection, “Regular inspection of schools in an important step to ensure quality education, hence the concerned officers right from School Education Director visited many schools and taken necessary steps against teachers in case of regularity and other related issues during inspection in last year.”

During 9721 inspections, altogether 6 teachers were suspended while payments of 319 teachers were placed on hold as the concerned team found many irregularities in teachers’ duties, added source.

Asked about the future plans, “Rules will be framed for the appointment of Kokborok teachers and arrangement will be made to provide professional training on D.EL.Ed Course to the remaining untrained teachers”, he said adding that steps are on to fill up the remaining vacant posts as well. Besides, pre-service training will be arranged for candidates of elementary teachers, he said.

“In order to encourage retention of girl students, the department has introduced free bi-cycle distribution scheme among the girl students of class IX to XII having annual family income not exceeding Rs. 1.25 lakh in the FY 2013-14. A total of 54578 girl students have received bi-cycles till date while the department planned to distribute more 20000 bi-cycles among the girl students of class IX in the current FY”, added the communiqué.

At last the official source stated that education is one of the prime mediums for the improvement of human resource. And, no community, society, nation or state can run advance without developing the human resource. Keeping this view ahead, in spite of several problems, the department would give more priority for the overall development of education in coming days.
