 Four day long Tripura annual flower show-cum-competition begins

AGARTALA, January 23 (TIWN): The four day long Tripura annual flower show-cum-competition 2015 was organized by horticultural society of Tripura at Rabindra Kanan, here today. The annual flower show-cum-competition 2015 will continue till January 26. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the annual flower show-cum-competition.

 Addressing in the inaugural ceremony Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that the soil and climate here is very much suitable for floriculture. We feel that if people come up for cultivation of flowers here, then one can realize the potential of this. Even poor people can earn a livelihood out of floriculture, Sarkar added.

Flower lovers thronged the Rabindra Kanan. People came from far and wide to witness the beauty of amazing floral show created by some of the city''s finest gardeners highlighting the beauty of different flowers. Visitors were mesmerized with the enchanting beauty of flowers.

Around 388 varieties of vibrant and colourful flowers like dahlia, gerbera, marigold, rose, chrysanthemum, orchid, and anthodium were displayed at the flower show.

Bonsai and other ornamental plants are also displayed at the flower show.

“We are getting very good response, a large number of people are now earning through floriculture. Earlier flowers use to come from West Bengal but now Chrysanthemum is being cultivated in various villages ant those flowers are coming to the market. Beside this many nurseries have come up here and each nursery is employing around ten people. A good number of youths are getting employed through it,” said a member of horticultural society of Tripura.

“I love flowers, and especially Chrysanthemums, and so came to the flower show. I am taking photo of each variety of flowers and print and put them in our house so that children can learn about them,” added flower lover Mihir Roy.
