TIWN March 6, 2023

AGARTALA, March 6 (TIWN): Former Chief Manik Sarkar was asked by journalists on Sunday whether there is any chance that seat sharing with Congress caused a down in the numbers of Left winning seats as CPI-M, Congress got 14 seats together in 2023 poll whereas CPI-M alone got 16 seats in 2018 poll.
In reply, Manik Sarkar said, there is absolutely no reason to blame the alliance with Congress for the Left party’s performance.
“Nobody so far in our party has raised this issue that seat sharing with Congress can be a factor for CPI-M’s setback but in the future when we will sit together to find out the flaws, we will sort out the matter too, but right now, I can’t comment on that”, Sarkar told media.
On the other hand, CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said, it’s because of Congress and Left’s joint support that a strict poll could be organized and rigging could be prevented and there is absolutely no reason to blame seat-sharing with Congress for opposition’s defeat.
Jitendra Chowdhury however blamed opposition vote division as major reason that BJP has been voted to power as regional party Tipra Motha got 13 seats alone and in many seats because of vote divided, BJP won narrowly.
