AGARTALA, Dec 17 (TIWN): Reportedly, Netaji Vidyaniketan Nursery and English Medium School, Master Para Anganwadi Center and are located in the same complex at Chottakhola in North Srirampur Gram Panchayat of Rajnagar Block. The school has been facing acute shortage of drinking water for a long time. At various times the local Panchayat, Block, DWS and BJP leaders were informed but nothing was done. Finally, on the initiative of the Election Officer, DWS started the work to set up Water facilities in the school to solve the problem of drinking water in the school.
But on Thursday, local BJP leaders Leelaram Tripura and Pinku Debnath, known as anti-social elements, insulted the workers and asked them to stop work. As the workers initially did not agree to keep their word, the two anti-social activists allegedly beat up the workers and forcibly took away the workers' work equipment. Later the workers were forced to stop work.
Centering the incident, the students, teachers and parents of the school became angry. They rushed to the North Srirampur village Panchayat office and surrounded the principal. It is reported that the chief was released from the siege when the Panchayat representatives, including the head, promised to provide drinking water to the school within the next 10 days.
As the drinking water supply of the school was stopped, the entire area was in chaos.
