Agartala, January 15 (TIWN): In the 2014-15 financial year Tripura has got Rs 316 crore from the Central Government in Rajiv Gandhi Bidyutayan Scheme. Though the estimated amount given to the Central is 684 crore. So, Central Government had deprived the State Government at a loss of 368 crore.
On the other hand, BJP formed Central Government had decided to put off the Rajiv Gandhi Bidyutayan scheme and despite that to launch another two scheme to be named as :-

Integrated Power Development Scheme |
Rural |

About 9080 habitation of rural Tripura were under the Rajiv Gandhi Bidyutayan Scheme, out of which till now 1350 were covered. The newly formed schemes were likely to be operational from the 2015-16 financial year. The State Government and the TSCEL hopes that within December 2016 electricity will reach in almost the remote areas.
With that introduction of smart meter system is also a new initiative of the Central Government to extend the helping hands to the middle class and grass root level class to avoid excessive paying of bills, prevention of hook lines etc. Recently the theft of power and the use of hook lines become a daily routine. Apart from that large numbers of consumers are not exactly paying the electricity bill. Since the formation of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd, it is very strict on those stealing or using electricity illegally. Already several complaints have been registered against such offences and penalties too have been imposed in a few cases. More importantly TSECL even came out strongly against domestic and commercial consumers and disconnected illegal users.
Though the action are taken against the default bill payers, Mr. Roy himself admits that in some cases strict actions are taken resulting in the cut off the line. But as this is developing day by day, it becomes tougher for the corporation to take every possible step. But measures were taken against those who are using illegal hook lines.
