AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): On a shocking note, Tripura Medical College authority has announced on Tuesday possible suspension of the agitating Internship and repeatedly told media that the agitating intern Doctors will not get a degree without completing their internships and now if they want to pursue degree, they must repeat from the beginning. However, whether the interns have already been suspended or not, is not clear yet. The exact statement of the TMC faculty members in a joint press meet was, “Internship is a compulsory part of MBBS course and it’s not an option. Due to Covid-19 pandemic the students already lagging behind in training as they were participating in online classes. Now internship is very crucial especially for this batch”.
It was also announced that the hostel fee will be waived but the stipend issue is not in College’s hands. But the college authority can place the demand with priority at the next society meeting.
The college authority added that nobody should be misguided by thinking that the interns’ 3 week-long strike is affecting hospital services as they are just trainees and learning by practicing. They have no authority or sufficient knowledge to provide service to any patient.
TMC authority also said, in compare with many private medical colleges, TMC pays higher stipend.
