AGARTALA, January 2 (TIWN): A joint border management drill between border sentinels of India and Bangladesh kick started from December 30 and would continue till January 5, total 41 officials from different battalions of Border Security Force (BSF) are engaged in joint border control and management course, said official sources.
The BSF delegation is likely to be returning on January 7. The drill was a part of the continued effort between the two nations to contain incidents of cross-border crimes, the source said.
Tripura had a number of crises with the Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) in the Tripura-Bangla frontier where Bangla authorities had put up objections to barbed wire fencing in many parts, especially in the South Tripura district. Incidents of cross border crimes were registered as well in the sector.
India and Bangladesh are currently working out the procedure to inaugurate a border haat in the Tripura frontiers within the second week of January next year. Union minister of state (Home) Kiren Rijiju said in his recent visit to Tripura that rise in legal borer trades would help accelerating the pace of border areas development and reducing cross-border crimes.
