AGARTALA, Oct 28 (TIWN): CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Wednesday demanded resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah after Supreme Court expressed resentment over mere ‘invocation’ by Govt of India over National Security concern without proper justification and formed a panel to probe the alleged scandal. Reacting over the latest development in the Supreme Court, Jitendra Choudhury released a statement, “Keeping the moral ethics in mind, the Home Minister must resign as the Supreme Court has ordered a neutral probe”. “Every citizen of India ought to be protected against violations of privacy. It is this expectation which enables us to exercise our choices, liberties and freedom,” the Supreme Court Chief said on Wednesday. The court also referred to the need to protect sources of journalists.
“Having regard to the importance of the protection of journalistic sources for press freedom in a democratic society and the potential chilling effect that snooping techniques may have, this court’s task in the present matter, where certain grave allegations of infringement of the rights of the citizens of the country have been raised, assumes great significance,” CJI N.V. Ramana said.
