AGARTALA, December 24 (TIWN): The first phase work of the installment of the LED lights here in the capital city Agartala has been completed on December 23. Spanning from the Agartala Airport till Raj Bhawan in the North Eastern zone of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), at least 470 street lights has been replaced with the LED bulbs making the city looks bright ahead of the Christmas celebration in Tripura.
Talking to TIWN today Ashutosh Jindal (IAS) said that the first phase of the work for the installation of the LED lights from Agartala airport to Raj Bhawan has been completed on December 23, and during the second phase of the work the entire capital city Agartala will be covered.
The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has completed the preliminary work for replacing traditional sodium vapour lights with highly power efficient LED lights in parts of Agartala city. According to the official, as per the MoU signed between the state government and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Public sector Unit (PSU) of Ministry of Power for Light Emitting Diode (LED) based street lightening system in the Agartala city, the corporation would be investing Rs. 14 crores for the project in Tripura in phased manner over 7 years.
Earlier Ashutosh Jindal said that the state government wouldn’t have to spend a single rupee according to the agreement signed between both parties. The invested money would be recovered from the savings resulting from low power bill in the Agartala municipal area in the next seven years.
He added that a total of 25 thousand lights would be replaced by LED lights in Agartala city in the time frame.
The AMC is currently reported to incur an annual energy bill of Rs. 4 crores. Nearly 1 Megawatt of energy can be conserved per day with the installment of the LED lights. It will also save electricity bill and also provide better lightening system in the streets, the officials said.
