AGARTALA, Sep 23 (TIWN): In a major relief for the Trinamool Congress, Tripura High Court has reportedly stayed the ongoing police investigation in the Khowai PS case. In a hearing, Chief Justice Akil Kureshi stayed the investigation up to Durga puja. 2 days back, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh fell sick during interrogation by Agartala Police in connection with the Khowai case. The case was lodged against TMC leaders including MP Abhishek Banerjee, MP Dola Sen, Bengal Minister Bratya Basu and State Tripura leaders. The leaders visited Khowai PS after the party injured workers were arrested by police there without any proper ground. Although the TMC workers were injured in BJP's attack, police did not arrest BJP workers and arrested the victims. Centering this the TMC leaders visited the police station and the police alleged that TMC leaders misbehaved with police and lodged a suo moto case. In a hearing, Chief Justice Akil Kureshi stayed the investigation up to Durga puja. 2 days back, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh fell sick during interrogation by Agartala Police in connection with the Khowai case.

The case was lodged after TMC leaders were protesting against a brutal attack on their youth activists and illegal police arrest on August 8 at the Khowai PS. The TMC leaders also questioned the police asking why no arrests of BJP patronized attackers under the PS ? After that Trinamool youth activists got bails and two days after the case was lodged against the 6 Trinamool leaders for being in Khowai PS alleging they disrupted the police functioning. Challenging the FIR, the petition was filed with two appeals : 1) To Stop the police procedure and 2) To quash the FIR.

On August 18, on the first hearing day, Tripura High Court accepted the plea of stopping the final report submission and charge sheet submission by police until further order. The next hearing will be on Sept 2nd but till then, the Court has restricted Police from submitting chargesheet and submission of any final report. So police action is restricted in the case till 2nd September.

Supreme Court Advocate Siddarth Luthra,  Tripura High Court Advocate Narasingha Das, Tripura High Court Advocate Debanjan Das were present on behalf of the petitioners.

Tripura Police has filed an FIR against senior Trinamool Congress MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Dola Sen, Bengal education minister Bratya Basu, party general secretary Kunal Ghosh, former Tripura minister Prakash Das and former MLA Subal Bhowmik for allegedly obstructing police officers from performing their duties.
