AGARTALA, June 5 (TIWN): In yet another case of brutality by men in khaki, two young men, namely, Banti Ghosh and Sukanta Banik, residents of the Dukli area were dragged and beaten up mercilessly by Maharajganj Bazar police personnel for not wearing a helmet.
As the victim said, “Banti and Sukanta went to the Maharajganj Bazar to buy vegetables when a few police personnel stopped them before the market by hitting their bike with a pipe for not wearing a helmet. While the youth tried to explain to him the cause, the police allegedly beaten him brutally, made him fall on the street bleeding. The OC was standing a few steps away but did not step forward to stop the inhuman incident.
Later, the fire service personnel rescued the two youths and took them to the GB Hospital. Banti Ghosh, who was riding the bike endured severe injuries on his head, ear, neck, with his leg broken.
“Banti was lucky to survive for the fire service personnel who immediately rushed him to the hospital. A major accident could have happened today and who would then take the liability?” asked his family members.
The administration’s hooliganism has created an uproar among the general public condemning the "arrogant behavior" of the policemen. A week back in a similar incident the NCC police and TSR harassed a govt. employee allegedly while he was going to the office. A series of crimes are taking place within every corner of the state on a daily basis. Starting from murder, rape, theft, burglary, and brutal attacks on common people but the police play a blind role then.
