AGARTALA, May 27 (TIWN): Sikha Deb, Principal of Udaipur ANM Institute and the editor of the state of All India Trained Nurse Association held a press meet today on various issues.
Addressing the media, she said, “In our state, the rate of coronavirus infection is increasing day by day as well the fatality rate is also increasing due to the virus. About 5000 to 5500 nursing staff are required in the state, but only 1700-1800 nurses are functioning which is making it more difficult to cope with the disease. Is it possible to deal with the shortage of 5500 nurses with these 1800 nurses?

Among these 1800 nurses, some are on maternity leave, and after serving the COVID positive patents for 7-days, some nurses are also staying in isolation which is deliberately increasing the shortage of nurses.”
She claimed, “Besides, when the nurses go to the quarantine centers, no adequate facilities are provided to them and this can be witnessed only in our state. The government should provide the essential items sufficiently to the frontline warriors who are risking their lives every day.
Despite imposing the COVID duty to teachers, if the government had chosen to recruit the ANM, GNM, and other trained staff for the work, the state people would have gotten better health care then and the government could also earn a good reputation.”
“The state government has said that 164 doctors will be recruited. Similarly, the unemployed nurses should also be recruited for the welfare of the people”, the Principal asserted.
