AGARTALA, May 17 (TIWN): Attacks on On-Duty Doctors continue amid Covid-19 pandemic as Orthopedic Dr. Arup Das was violently attacked by patient party at the biggest State Govt hospital of Tripura GB hospital amid heavy security. Yesterday in GB hospital, loads of patients were reported in the Trauma Centre and serious patients were given priority one by one as per the need but one of the patient parties lost patience and demanded that his family member must get first treatment. Then the patient party started a chaos in front of the Trauma Centre and when Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Arup Das himself asked the patient party to leave the sensitive place where serious patients are admitted, then the patient's family member got furious. Then Dr Arup Das pushed the man to go outside but the patient's family member immediately turned violent on the Doctor asking him repeatedly to treat his patient first. Centering this incident, Doctors gheraoed the AGMC Principal Dr. K K Kundu's chamber today as Dr. Arun Das is a trainee Doctor under AGMC.

On being asked by the media about the private security guards' role, the Doctor said that securities came to the spot but questioned, why the patient party will be allowed to enter in such an area where the operation theatre is functioning ?
"A patient's family members' mental condition can't be stable when they see blood in their beloved one's bodies and that's why security's role is needed seriously", Dr Arup Das told the media.

Attacked Doctor Arup Das has filed an FIR against the attacker.

The accused person's name is Joy Bardhan and resides in Swami Vivekananda Apartment. Doctors demanded action against Joy Bardhan under the Medicare Act.

Tripura has a tremendous crisis of Doctors amid around 400 Doctors are unemployed. Loads of serious patients are highest in GB hospital and in that Hospital huge numbers of medical staff are required so that the "load" can be managed.
