AGARTALA / BELONIA, May 11 (TIWN): Protest was staged in Belonia over brutal attacks on former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, former Minister Badal Choudhury  which took place in Santir Bazar yesterday. Due to Covid-19, social distancing in the protest was maintained and no mass gathering at a massive number was allowed by party though yesterday BJP violating Covid rule gathered at a massive number and held severe attacks on Opposition leader cum former CM Manik Sarkar and Deputy Opposition leader Badal Choudhury. While addressing the media, a CPI-M leader said that BJP is suffering from Communist phobia and that's why such ugly attacks are being taken place. Badal Choudhury was injured on his head, vehicles were vandalized and many received minor injuries due to stone pelting.

Though calling a press meet, BJP claimed that it had no link with attack on former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, former Minister Badal Choudhury at Santir Bazar on Monday but footages show that many of the persons who were leading the attack on the opposition leaders are not only active BJP members but Yuva Morcha District President Suman Debnath was also caught clearly in footage. So far nobody could be arrested in this incident, as predicted as police's hands are tied up.

When CM Biplab Deb and BJP party leaders are lighting candles over West Bengal law and order, this is the reality behind the crocodile tears for other states. This is not the first time that opposition MLAs have been attacked in Tripura under BJP Govt but since 2018, Badal Choudhury was attacked various times and Manik Sarkar was also under severe attacks. BJP in Tripura had burnt thousands of houses, killed opposition activists though hardly action was taken in a single case, robbed houses, snatched people's business and many were permanently made handicapped.

Yesterday's Santir Bazar incident took place at Santir Bazar, South Tripura after leader of the Opposition, former CM Manik Sarkar, Badal Choudhury, MLA Sudhan Das, leader Basudeb Majumder and others were going to meet an attacked family there. That family was recently attacked by the local BJP, their houses were damaged. To talk to the victim family, the former Chief Minister visited there along with Badal Choudhury, Sudhan Das and others.

Police officials present there tried their best to safeguard the leaders but as Police authority did not permit any lathi-charge, so the deployed police personnel could not use any preventive method.

After the incident, Manik Sarkar addressed the media in Agartala Melarmath headquarter, where questions were raised how the BJP came to know about the opposition leaders' visits in South Tripura if Police higher authority had no nexus ?

Sarkar called it a "Jungle Raj" and said, "Again and again such incidents can not be tolerated".
