AGARTALA, December 11 (TIWN): Most of the city buses of TRTC are in deplorable condition with in the span of one year. The deplorable condition of city bus stops has laid bare the authorities’ utter neglect to public convenience and safety.
The central government issued a fund to Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) to buy new city buses to provide more facilities to the daily commuters.
“Without proper maintenance any vehicle will break-down and for RTC buses a combination of factors like lack of maintenance for more than one month and bad road conditions resulted in an increase in break-downs,” said a highly placed source of TRTC.
According to a TRTC official most buses break-down because of a failure in transmission system. With heavy traffic, a driver is forced to use clutch more often, resulting in increased wear and tear of the clutch plates and related equipment.
We are concentrating on the maintenance of our buses and as a result the number of bus breakdowns came down significantly in last one month, he claimed.
How could the authorities entrusted with the upkeep of the civic amenities be blind to such a situation? This is not just causing a great deal of inconvenience to the commuters, but also poses a danger to their physical well-being, said a citizen of the city.
