AGARTALA, March 24 (TIWN): CPI (M) North Tripura district secretary Amitabha Dutta and district committee member Ashish Nath rushed to the hospital on hearing about the brutal attack done by ruling party miscreants on Kanchanpur Press Club Secretary Bikash Das today. They wished a speedy recovery to the victim and also spoke about the current volatile situation.

Based on details, while Bikash arrived at the Shantipur Village area under Laljuri Block today to collect news related to corruption, BJP miscreants allegedly attacked him intending to kill him. To save his life, Bikash first hid in the forest for few minutes. Then somehow he managed to reach Kanchanpur police station hiring a car with his forehead bleeding. He was first taken to Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Hospital. After receiving first aid he was shifted to North Tripura District Hospital for advanced treatment.

In response to a question from reporters, Amitabha said that the state government must take the responsibility for immediate arrest of criminals, the security of journalists has to be ensured and the victim should get quality treatment. A case has already been filed at Kanchanpur PS seeking a proper investigation into the incident.

However, about 22 journalists have been attacked in Tripura since the chief minister threatened the state media on September 11, 2020, while addressing a program in Sabroom and the police played a dumb role in this regard.
