AGARTALA, Dec 26 (TIWN): The number of journalists attacked in Tripura rose to 18 in less than 4-months after Chief Minister's threat to the media. Several news channels have been attacked.

On Dec 25, Pratibadi Kalam's representative Pradeep Debnath was attacked by two drunk BJP miscreants Jhutan Debnath and Bipul Debnath.

Pradeep was attacked while protesting against the misconduct of the accused. When his six-month pregnant wife came forward to save Pradip, the miscreants also assaulted her.

In a public meeting last September, the terrible Chief Minister allegedly threatened the media after a reputed newspaper published informative news about the poor infrastructure inside COVID wards.

The Assembly of Journalists, the largest media forum in Tripura, protested the incident and demanded that the threat be withdrawn. The matter was brought to the notice of all concerned including the Prime Minister. The Press Council of India has also filed a case against the Chief Minister in this regard.

Under the threat of the Chief Minister, the anti-social elements in the shadow of the Dictator are attacking the media almost every day somewhere in the state. But so far no legal action has been taken in any of the cases.

The Government failed to condemn the attack on journalists. Rather, it is providing shelter to the hired criminals.

Condemning the repeated attack on journalists, on Dec 26, the Assembly of Journalists assured that they will intensify their ongoing agitation demanding freedom of the press and safety of journalists.
