AGARTALA, Nov 2 (TIWN): Agitating against the increasing attacks on Lawyers and deteriorating law and order in Tripura, an independence group of Lawyers under 'Lawyers for Democracy' beyond any political colour has staged agitation at the West District Court. The agitation was after a group of miscreants held attacks on two lawyers and although at first police caught an accused red-handed, but later huge numbers of Bajrang Dal members entered the police station and asked police to release the arrested man. Then police did not sought any custody for the accused person while producing him in court on the next day. Centering the incident heavy resentment fueled among the Lawyers. While agitating, eminent Advocate of the Tripura High Court Purushottom Roy Barman said, "Today lawyers are being attacked in the Court in broad day light. It is a shame !"

"Two advocates --- Gautam Banik and Anirban Basak were attacked in the court premise and such an ugly incident I did not see in my last 30 years of advocate career", he said.

"The main reason behind the attack was lawyers took certain cases, but as per constitution lawyers can fight for any accused person. Those miscreants who held attacks on the lawyers were connected with communal groups. Now, question is being raised--- if lawyers are attacked by taking certain cases, what is the need of court then ? In such a society, only miscreants will rule and justice system will be demolished", Purushottom Roy Barman said that attack on lawyers is a direct attack on the justice system.
