DAMCHARA / PANISAGAR, Sep 7 (TIWN): In grudge against murderer elephant rider, the protesters of Damchara allegedly turned violent on second day of the protest and broke Police vehicle.
The agitators held severe attacks on police, vandalized the vehicle.Protest had erupted after a murder of a man, injuring his family members.
However, police displayed patience and for hours they tried to convince the agitators.
The protestors demanded Rs. 20 lakhs compensation, Govt jobs to the family members of the deceased in the incident. But no local leader had visited the spot and police alone had to control the situation fully.
Background of the protest : A Reang community man had been killed, whereas two women (Deceased’s Wife and Daughter) are severely inured by an elephant-rider.
The elephant rider allegedly attempted to rape the woman and her daughter when this incident took. When the family head came to save his wife and daughter, the accused hit on him, which killed him on spot, as per the local sources allegations.
The criminal is now absconding.
Reportedly, this incident took place at Damchara’s Ranajati Para’s Ward No-1. The two survivors of Reang family alleged that it was a rape-attempt incident.
To save these two women, the family’s head died after the criminal attacked him with sharp weapon.
Police also chased the criminal, who is a resident of Kailashahar but when police were near to him, leaving the elephants on road, he escaped from the spot.
Body has been sent for post mortem and the women are in serious condition, hospitalized.
Locals staged road-blockade, protests, seeking action against the culprit.
But today the protest turned violent and it caused attacks on police.
