AGARTALA, Aug 24 (TIWN): Director office of the ST Welfare Dept was gheraoed by B.Ed undergoing students in Tripura alleging, Govt of Tripura has stopped scholarships under “Chief Minister’s B.Ed Anuprerana Yojna”. The agitating students said that they also met the Director earlier also after 1-year of their study, Govt stopped funding for the free accommodation, food in other states but last time, it was said that the Govt is facing shortage of funds led them today to stage protest as they are almost to be dropped out. Addressing media, a victim student said, “Before 2 years, through an advertisement it was said that based on merit, Govt will send students outside states to complete their B.Ed".

"For 2 years course fee, fooding, lodging will be freed, but now from Dept we are getting calls that we should give course fee soon. We are deprived after 1-year. We want to ask, why our course fee is not given when promise was done for free-of-cost ?"

"Our demand is, Govt must keep its promise and as per advertisement the Govt should give us free education chances. Now, Director is saying, there is a shortage of fund and thus, we have to bear our own expenses. Around 150 students are now deprived”, said a student.

In the advertisement it was said that uder Chief Minster’s B Ed Anuprerana Yojana, the students having 50 percent marks (45 per cent for SC/ST students) will get an opportunity to avail bank loan and go for two-year B Ed course in NAAC accredited colleges. The state government will bear the interest for four years.
