AGARTALA, Aug 7 (TIWN): Huge numbers of ST students today protested for their pending scholarship for which they are almost at the edge of being dropout or meet year-loss in various colleges, according to the allegations raised by the ST students today. A group of students met the higher authority of the Tribal Welfare dept seeking their pending scholarships. Talking to media, the students said, “Around 50% of the students are not getting their scholarships. In the last month, the Director of the Tribal Welfare Dept had assured us to clear the pending scholarship but till now, nothing happened. As a result, we are bound to come here to meet the Director again. Above 23,000 students have not received their scholarship yet. For few students, from 2017 the scholarships are pending for and in same way, 2018, 2019 years are not clear for many students. We demand the Govt should immediately clear the pending stipends".

“We are waiting for our stipend for a long time, but no development is happening. B.Ed students are badly affected from it, as Colleges are giving warning to give them ‘back’ in the academic year. Many of them are in West Bengal and many are in Tripura”, said a student.

Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister is Mebar Jamatia and Finance Minister is Jishnu Debbarma.
