AGARTALA, Aug 5 (TIWN): Amid COVID-19 pandemic, when Doctors are serving day-night risking their lives, in Tripura Doctors are again and again humiliated, attacked by public, by administration and all sides. In such a move, a Doctor named Uttam Bhattacharjee was suspended and in the suspension letter, there was no mention about the cause of the suspension. Doctors finally came in massive protest, saying, if such things do not stop immediately, then Doctors will not work. ATGDA GS Dr Rajesh Chowdhury, IMA GS Dr Souvik Debbarma, AGMC Teachers Council President Dr Damodar Chatterjee and other senior Doctors remained present during the protest at GB hospital.

Talking to media, a senior Doctor said, “We are shocked after acknowledging about the suspension order of Dr Uttam Kumar Bhattacharjee. He is an eye-surgeon basically, but due to COVID-19 crisis situations, he is posted in Bhagat Singh COVID-19 Care Centre, although a Medicine Doctor is needed in that Centre.  But still, he is doing his duties due to Doctors’ shortage but he is now suspended illegally. In the COVID-19 Centre, the responsibility goes to the Civil Officers mainly including food and sanitizing. Doctors duty is only about treatment”.

“But amid Coronavirus pandemic, if Doctors are continued to treat in such manners, then in the coming days, nobody will be doing duties properly”, said the Doctor.

“We are risking our lives. If such suspensions go on, then Doctors will lose their morality. It is not fair. A public representative went to the Bhagat Singh COVID-19 Care Centre and the Doctor just assisted him. This is his duty. Nothing was wrong in that !”, said the agitating senior Doctor.

The Doctors also condemned the four accused persons’ receiving bails in the “Spitting on Doctors incident”. Another Doctor Nishtha Das was also humiliated by Gomati DM Tarun Kanti Majumder on August 2nd during a raid and he insulted the lady Doctor for other Doctor’s fault, although she had no fault.
