AGARTALA, July 17 (TIWN): As announced, total Lockdown has been started in Tripura borders covering Bangladesh and full restrictions have been imposed across 1 Km from border in Rural and Half Km in Urban bodies. Huge numbers of security forces were seen in the border areas and the measured lands for restrictions. Total curfew like situations were witnessed since the morning. This major decision was taken as a precaution as COVID-19 cases has raised to 2,366 with 3 deaths with a sudden rise of numbers. DM West Sandeep Mahatme informed media, if any person has railway and flight tickets, then he or she will be allowed to go out. But all industrial works, shops, markets and other activities will be shutdown. Border areas were seen without any public movement and this lockdown which was necessitated to curb COVID-19 outbreak, to be continued for 7 days.

However, all emergency services to remain active there and also huge securities has been provided. The lockdown is in place for seven days, starting July 17.Movement of individuals will remain prohibited, except for emergency requirements. All offices, schools, government and private institutions, markets, shops will remain closed.

“It has come to the notice of the State Government that there is some spread of Covid-19 in border areas of the state which has posed as a major threat to public health, hygiene and safety of the people. In the capacity of the chairman of the State Executive Committee of Tripura State Disaster Management Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 22 ( 2) (h) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 direct enforcement of “ Total Lockdown” within 1 km of border in rural areas and 0.5 km in municipal areas from international Bangladesh border of the State of Tripura for 7 days w.e.f. 7 AM of 17th July, 2020"----said the Govt order while announcing lockdown in border.
