Belonia, Nov 23 (TIWN): Suppressed resentment is prevailing among a section of residents of Belonia and Sabroom sub-divisions along Indo-Bangla international border on the role of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel as the smugglers are rampantly smuggling various contraband items to the neighboring country Bangladesh on daily basis. Deployed on duty BSF personnel can prevent the smuggling of contraband items to Bangladesh if they perform their duty accordingly, locals said.

The locals alleged that, taking large-amount bribe, the BSF does not check the imported materials carrying trucks through Belonia Check Post. As a result, illegally imported bricks and sacks of cement from Bangladesh through Belonia Check Post have gripped Belonia and Sabroom subdivisions pushing the local merchants into trouble. Black marketing is another alarming issue in those areas, they added.According to the sources, the fencing of 3-km border in Belonia town is almost remained incomplete as many schools and public buildings in several villages are located within this demarcation. By using the unfenced border, the smugglers are freely smuggling contraband items including high-inducing codeine-laced cough syrup phensedyl.

The contraband items including cough syrup are being smuggled in Bangladesh by packing them into cartons with the help of Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB), said a source. On the other hand, ganja cultivation is a flourishing trade at Rajnagar in South Tripura. A vast number of ganja plants in Rajnagar are tended just for the consumers of Bangladesh, said the villagers.

By using the unfenced border at Belonia and Sabroom, the infiltrators and militants can easily enter into the state and can plan for a massive attack.
