AGARTALA, July 10 (TIWN): Instead of accepting BJP Govt’s massive failure to provide jobs and livelihood to the youths of state, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Friday while addressing at Agartala Town Hall baselessly criticized media’s CMIE data-base reporting on unemployment which is factually ranked Tripura in the 2nd rank among all states in India in June, 2020. However, according to CMIE, Tripura 99% times per months ranked first in unemployment but this month, Tripura has ranked second as Haryana’s unemployment rate has increased massively. Deb claimed that unemployment rate has downed at 1.73 lakhs from the existing 7.5 lakhs whereas in last 2 years massive terminations took place, including the recent 10323 teachers.

Now, few questions to the CM would be : When before 2018, BJP were in massive protest against unemployment rate, how come in 2 years BJP Govt had given 5.5 lakhs of jobs ? Is CMIE data wrong ?

Biplab Deb on Friday has denounced media reports which had recently published columns on CMIE based unemployment data for Indian states, where Tripura’s unemployment rate is shown as 21.3% after Haryana which has 33.6%. CM was addressing in Swanirbhar Yojna programme in Agartala Town Hall and said that the unemployment data is wrongly counted in Tripura always and Tripura’s rank is 17 among 36 states, territories. He also said that only 5% unemployment rate is existing in Tripura as per national unemployment data whereas, unemployment numbers downed at 1.73 lakhs from 7.5 lakhs in 2 years. CM predicted, news reports are wrong and old. However, the media in state reported based on CMIE’s monthly data which surveys per month on unemployment rates in each state of India, but CM claimed this is old data.

Tripura has ranked second in the unemployment rate at 21.3% among the 28 states in India. According to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy Pvt. Ltd (CMIE), it is Haryana which is having the highest unemployment rate at 33.6%, Tripura Second at 21.3 and Jharkhand is 21.0% that is the 3rd position. Neighboring Assam has the lowest unemployment rate in India that is Assam at 0.6%. Tripura's unemployment rates have been highest throughout the year, although this month, it is at 2nd position with massive surges in Haryana.

CMIE said the unemployment rate fell “very sharply” from 23.5 per cent in May 2020 to 11 per cent in June. However, the think tank’s Managing Director and CEO Mahesh Vyas said the 11 per cent unemployment rate in June is “still quite high” compared to the less than than 8 per cent rate before the lockdown.
