TIWN

AGARTALA, November 22 (TIWN): When the crimes against women had already taken a top most position in Tripura, in yet a brutal incident one former teacher of Maharani Tulsi Bati School namely Nani Ghosh with the help of an auto driver tried to molest three minor school girls of Maharani Tulsi Bati School in the auto.

According to sources, the accused teacher was retired from the school years ago, but in the name of providing free education he used to come to school every day. Even before some of the guardians have also complained to the school principal that culprit Nani try to physically abuse their girls. But no appropriate measures were taken by the school authority, due to which the dareness of the culprit Nani was on its top, the source informed.

The identity of the auto driver is yet to be revealed. A parents meeting was held regarding the matter, the source added. But none of the parents are coming infront to register a case regarding the incident. Some of the other parents are telling that, why did not the school authority or the principal took any proper steps after getting complains before the incident took place?

Though, the state government has taken certain steps to curb it, like recruitment of more women police and setting up more women police station. But all these seem to have bowed down in front of the increasing rate of crimes against women in Tripura.

In 2011, 1,503 such cases were registered while the number went up to 1,650 in 2012 and 1,706 in 2013. Beside from April 2013 to March 2014, the number of case relating to the women registered at 848 taking the number high till today.

According to the National Crimes Record Bureau, Tripura ranked second after Assam in the number of crimes against women in Northeast India.

A section of public believes that low conviction rate, lack of prompt action by police and victims shying from lodging complaints resulted in rise in such crimes. But what must be the present situation here in Tripura? When the women are not getting a proper justice and the police are always in a race to either hush up the lodged case or to save the accused persons. Recently many such cases had already come under limelight where the police are still on a sleep and the accused are making a free movement.
