Agartala, November 22 (TIWN): With the starting of dry seasons, most of the areas in Agartala city and interior places are facing acute crisis of drinking water. However, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is maintaining to avoid the several pleas in crisis of drinking water.

In the interior areas of Agartala, Chanmari, Bhalluktilla and other areas, the residents face various problems of water crisis. Though they protested many times, but the AMC and concerned department turned a deaf ear to solve out the major problem.

It is to be mentioned here that, many interior tribal localities in Tripura are facing acute drinking water crisis mainly caused by the dry spell. The drinking water and sanitation (DWS) department has arranged for supply of water by mobile tankers to help out distressed people.

However, top official informed that most of the hamlets are suffering from drinking water scarcity. According to the sources, the DWS department has arranged 55 tankers to supply water to the affected localities.

In the last year tankers pressed into service to take water in 213 hamlets which shows the situation to have improved comparatively this year. The DWS Minister earlier made this statement after reviewing water crisis and its adversities, in a meeting with officials of his department.

Officials stated that most of the affected areas are situated in North Tripura and Dhalai districts. In some cases of water borne diseases have been reported from these districts.

Eruption of enteric disease and diarrhea are most common factors during the dry spell in remote tribal localities. Drinking of contaminated water from the streams due to drying up of regular water sources have led to diseases resulting in casualties every year.

But according to Minister, the concerned DWS officers are constantly monitoring the situation and the appropriate measures will be taken shortly. Officers and my department staffs have been requested for not to take leave now, he said.
