AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): Indigenous backed Ksatriya Samaj has accused the BJP Govt for insulting indigenous culture over ‘Animal Sacrifice’ this year on Kharchi. The decision of abandoning animal sacrifice was taken to avoid pubic gathering in the temple premise, but today holding a press meet, the society has announced, now it is them who will be organizing animal sacrifice in Khumulwng temple on 3rd July, Friday, inviting masses to join the programme. The society has said that puja will be held in anyway and invited all to join regardless community. They further said, social distancing will be maintained there. That will be performed regardless Govt’s objection and also warned the Govt not to take any such decision in future which may hurt the traditiona sentiment or they will go in mass protest. Now, it’s a big challenge for the State Govt on how the Govt would handle the situation.

On the other side, no inauguration programme with stage was done this year at the Old Agartala temple due to lockdown. Chief Minister Biplab Deb has greeted the state on auspicious Kharchi Puja via his social media accounts.

He said, this year due to OCVID-19 Kharchi could not be celebrated but he prayed to God to relieve the world from COVID-19 so that people can enter into normal lives.

7 days long Kharchi puja has been started in Tripura’s Chaturdash Devta temple on Sunday.

This year although due to lockdown, the fair is restricted but the puja and each ritual was observed with full devotion.

“Kharchi” puja, an ancient Hindu festival in Tripura started on July 7 at Old Agartala or Puratan Agartala.

Like every year, the festival involves the worship of the fourteen gods forming the dynasty deity of the Tripuri people. Kharchi Puja is one of the most popular festivals in Tripura. 

All the deities have names in Kokborok, the Tripura’s mothertongue Kokborok language. It is observed on the Shukla Paksha Ashtami day in Ashad Month.
