AGARTALA, May 14 (TIWN): Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has raised doubts on the credibility of Modi Govt’s Rs. 20 lakhs crores package, raising question, how will it benefit the poor ? Sarkar stated, experience shows that even frauds are saved by the Govt sitting at Centre and the Govt seems too soft for loan waiving of them, but how such packages will help the poor, it will be shown in time. He said, till now, no benefit was given to the poor people. Sarkar was addressing in a trade union organized protest programme in Agartala. He said, “Trade union’s work is to raise demands for the people. Total 44 laws which are anti-workers, were tried to be adjusted in 4 laws and one was already passed, but then lockdown started”. “Now the situation is on the one side, shows that people are unable to come out of homes and on the other side, if anyone is trying to say anything is facing police machinery. Poor migrant workers-- few died on road, few on railway tracks. As a result around 500 labourers died in the economic-mishap”.

“Except the ruling party, everyone is raising demands to provide 10 kilo of rice per head along with other commodities. Even rations are not enough and thus Rs. 7,500 should be given for next 6 months (as monthly package), but Govt is totally lightliped over the issue”, Sarkar told media.

He added, “Poor people are the saver of all and their labours only establish various sectors, but today under whose sweats all are living, nothing is for their livelihood”.
