AGARTALA, Feb 25 (TIWN): One of the greatest and celebrated spiritual saints of pre-independence India, Ramakrishna Paramhansa was born on Dwitiya Tithi in the month of Phalguna, Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Moon). This year, his birth anniversary is being celebrated on February 25 (according to the Gregorian calendar). In Tripura devotees offered prayers to Lord Ramakrishna across Ramakrishna Mission and even various Kali temples.

Thousands of devotees thronged to Agartala Ramkrishna Temple, Dhaleswar on the occasion of 181st birth anniversary of Sri Sri Ramakrishna. Apart from that across Ramakrishna temples (Maths) this occasion was celebrated with much enthusiasm.

Ramakrishna (1836-1886 C.E.) was a famous Saint in the 19th century India. He was born on 18 February 1836 into a very poor but devoutly religious Brahmin family in the village of Kamarpukur, Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. He became a priest of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, dedicated to the goddess Kali. He is famously known as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa among his devotees.

This year devotees are observing the 184th birth anniversary of the religious guru.

The 19th-century saint devoted his life to the worship of Goddess Kali at the Dakshineshwar Temple on the banks of the river Hooghly, near Kolkata. He and his wife, Sharada Devi, served the Goddess and inspired devotees to walk the spiritual path. Ramakrishna believed in the theories of Advaita Vedanta, Shakta, and Bhakti marg.
