AGARTALA, Jan 4 (TIWN): Central trade unions gave a call for a nationwide general strike on January 8 against government's alleged failure to respond to demands of workers. As many as 10 central unions announced the strike in national open mass convention of workers, as per a joint statement issued by them. Ex-Minister Manik Dey said that beyond party barriers those who love the country must come to support the strike.
CITU, CPI-M’s trade union led by ex-MP Sankar Prasad Dutta and ex-Minister Manik Dey called a successful strike on that day sitting with other trade union leaders.
CITU informed that Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to be a part of CITU’s protest on 8th January.
As a part of the upcoming strike schedule, preparations and campaigning have been started in Tripura in full wave.
On the other side, BJP has opposed the strike. On the same day, last year during strike in Agartala shopkeepers were forced to open shops whereas in NESO called Strike police firing incident had hit Madahab Bari leaving 6 youths bullet injured.
