TIWN

Khowai, Oct 31 (TIWN): Superstition once again led a 35-year-old housewife to death after an envenomed snake-bite to a lady yesterday, at Paharmura area along Indo-Bangla international border under Khowai sub-division. The deceased was identified as- Alpana Biswas, a resident of the same area.

According to the villagers, a poisonous snake bitten Alpana yesterday around 12 pm while she was working at her house. Thereafter, family members of Alpana, keeping faith on false notion handed over her to a local ‘Ojha’ instead of taking her to hospital. But the Ojha could not do anything good for her amid massive crowd in her house.

However, after delay-dallying for long 3 hours family members of Alpana taken her to Khowai sub-divisional hospital in critical condition. But failing to provide anti-venom, the duty doctors referred her to Agartala GBP hospital, as anti-venom only available at GBP hospital. But her husband- Swapan Biswas (46) refused to shift her at GBP hospital and kept her in the same hospital.

Unfortunately, Alpana breathed her last at last night. The locals alleged that the negligence of her husband, superstition and non-availability of anti-venom in the Khowai sub-divisional hospital led her to death. Her life could be saved if anti-venom would provide to her on time.

In the era of science and technology, people still believe on superstition instead of taking the chance modern facilities. As a result, many innocent persons already passed away and many would die in the societies of fallacy.
