AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Oct 3 (TIWN): In another connectivity boon contributed by Indian Railway under the Modi Govt, the much awaited DEMU train services just have kick off before Durga puja for the first time in Northeast state Tripura, which hoping to increase volumes of train-frequency. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb flagged off a maiden train at Badharghat Railway station. The flag off programme was dedicated after a successful trail run held on Sep 6. Addressing on the occasion, Biplab Deb said that Modi Govt has spent highest expenditure for Tripura Railway development in compare to the whole Northeast zone.
Massive crowd was observed on the occasion and passengers occupied almost all seats in the first ever historical journey.
The Southern Tripura people’s long pending demand was these DEMU trains and direct connection with the capital city Agartala via Railway tracks.This train likely to increase the frequency of trains by easing movements of regular passengers.
Two trains will be functioning now numbered : 05684 (Agartala to Sabroom) and 05682 (Sabroom to Agartala) and more two will be introduced shortly. Tripura Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Railway top layer officials remained present to grace the occasion.
It was CM Biplab Deb’s promise to introduce new DEMU trains before Durga puja. For this particular project he started working long back when Suresh Prabhu was holding the Railway Dept in Modi-cabinet.
Just before 3 years Tripura was connected by Broad Gauge service in 2016 and having now at least 5 Express trains and various local trains. Indeed, trains plied a lot support for the Modi Govt in Left Govt's time elections also.
Govt of Tripura has targeted to boost tourism via ease transport system and DEMU trains’ starting will massively increase the frequency of trains station-wide.
